The Women With disAbilities Empowerment Project is a collaborative partnership between Family Services, Inc.’s Battered Women’s Services and Crime Victim’s Assistance Program, and Taconic Resources for Independence, Inc. This is a multi-year community project to provide education and technical assistance regarding women with disabilities affected by sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking, through a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women.
The ultimate goal of the project is to create meaningful, sustainable system change that results in appropriate and effective services for individuals with disabilities and Deaf individuals who are victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking. This project does not provide direct services, but instead focuses on input from individuals and providers to identify needs and develop training and technical assistance to address system gaps and strengthen the direct service delivery system.
